Person-Centred therapy was developed by Carl Rogers with a view to it focusing on the ‘here and now’ principle and encourages clients to explore and create positive change for themselves.
Person centred counselling means I will focus on the personal relationship between you and I, developing trust and understanding within the therapeutic relationship. I will support you in acknowledging the problems and issues you are faced with whilst encouraging self-awareness within a safe space.
Person-Centred counselling allows you to explore your thoughts, feelings and emotions in a safe and confidential environment. It gives you the opportunity to express concerns and difficulties and to understand the feelings that arise.
This therapy is a non-directive therapy which means that the sessions are guided by you. I will provide therapeutic support and enable you to use free-thinking during the sessions. It is based on the idea that every individual has the ability to create a positive way of living. I will actively listen and support you in a one-to-one counselling session.
Having looked at your feelings and emotions you will be better equipped to think the issues through until clarity is achieved. It will also help you with self-awareness and personal insight allowing you to understand the meaning behind your feelings and emotions and to decide what steps to take next.
